CrankTrace is a wireless diagnostic and display interface for older Yamaha outboard engines. It bridges your engine's onboard data systems to any modern device — smartphone, tablet, or computer — without proprietary hardware or dealership software.

Whether you're running offshore, idling in the bay, or troubleshooting at the dock, CrankTrace gives you a live view of how your engine is running. Temperature, fuel consumption, hours, fault codes — surfaced clearly, in real time, on whatever screen is closest.

Designed for boat owners who like to stay on top of their equipment. No subscription and no cloud dependency — your engine data stays with you.

Your phone joins CrankTrace's own WiFi — no router, internet, or cell signal needed. The simplest setup, and ideal offshore. Your phone stays offline while connected this way.

Join CrankTrace to your boat's WiFi or Starlink once, and your phone keeps its internet connection while you monitor your engines.

Both modes support single and twin engines, and the app picks the right one automatically.

What does CrankTrace do?

CrankTrace connects to the diagnostic port on older Yamaha outboards and shows live engine data on your phone, tablet, or PC — RPM, temperatures, battery voltage, engine hours, oil and water-in-fuel status, fault codes, and guided component tests.

Which Yamaha outboards does CrankTrace work with?

Version 1.0 targets older Yamaha EFI outboards. We're testing across the engine family now and will publish a full list of supported engines closer to launch. Not sure about yours? Email [email protected].

Can I read Yamaha outboard fault codes without a dealer?

Yes. CrankTrace shows fault codes as they happen, described in plain English instead of beep patterns, so you can understand what your engine is telling you without a laptop or a dealer visit.

Is CrankTrace a replacement for Yamaha's dealer diagnostic software?

CrankTrace isn't a dealer tool, but it covers the everyday checks — live engine data, fault codes, and common component tests — wirelessly, from the device you already carry.

Does CrankTrace work with twin engines?

Yes. CrankTrace shows both engines side by side, with a detailed diagnostics view for each.

Do I need internet on the boat?

No. Your phone can connect directly to CrankTrace with no router, internet, or cell signal. If you have boat WiFi or Starlink, CrankTrace can join that network instead so your phone keeps its internet connection.

When will CrankTrace be available?

Hardware is complete and the app is nearing beta. The beta is opening soon, with launch targeted for early 2027. Use the Join the Beta button to request a spot.
